Ghana - Cape Coast - Local pupils visiting the castle. Originally built in 1653, this UNESCO World Heritage Site Castle served as one of the most important slave trading posts along the West Africa coast. Today, it is one of the main attractions in Ghana, with around 90,000 tourists vising it every year. According to environmental experts, much of the West African coast could be submerged by 2099 as a direct consequence of rising sea levels and climate change.
