Benin - Cotonou - A passenger boat crosses the lagoon. Urbanization and migration have turned the coastal areas of West Africa into the economic hubs of the region. Most of the main cities, infrastructures and economic assets of the region are located along the coast.<br />
Sea level rise and coastal erosion are affecting more than 7,000 km of West African coast, from Mauritania all the way to Cameroon. Sea levels along the West African coast are expected to rise faster than the global average.
