A monk since 1982, Stewart studied at Harvard, Yale and Oxford, obtaining an A.B. in History and Literature, an M.A. in Religious Studies and a Doctorate of Philosophy. He is professor of theology at Saint John's University.Born in Houston in 1957, Stewart Columba, 59, is a Benedictine monk and the current executive director of the Minnesota-based Hill Museum & Manuscript Library. Since 2003, Stewart has overseen the digitization of hundreds of Christian and Islamic manuscript collections from Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and India, recording over 40 million pages in order to preserve them from insects, weatherwear, wars or destruction forever.
