Laos - Khang Khae - A picture of Nengyong is one of the very few items Mai Khang has kept in memory of her husband, all the rest has been burnt in order to chase the evil from the house where he committed suicide. Mai Khang, 30, is a widow and mother of four kids living in the village of Khang Khae. On April 2012, her husband Nengyong Yang was hit by a cluster bomb while trying to cut a tree in the family's rice field. Blinded and unable to support his family, Yang hanged himself on a mango tree one month after returning home from the hospital. “I kept on saying that the family still loved him and that he should focus on the future” she says. “I have forgiven him, but I am still upset for what he did”. Although she received some support from a local association for her children schooling, Khang still struggles to provide for her family. “I will not remarry because I have to look after my kids, but I would like anyone to support me”.
