The popularity and profitabilty of the argan oil has also attracted the attention of profiteers. Some of the argan found in the big Moroccan cities is cut with sunflower oil, whose colour is very similar. Moreover, in order to profit from state subventions, many ordinary shops and businesses have disguised themselves as cooperatives, employing few women as window-dressing.
