For seven decades up until 2001, an estimated 300,000 Spanish babies were stolen at birth by a complicit network of doctors, nurses, religious and administration officials. While parents were told their children had died for health complications, their newborns were actually being sold to affluent couples, in Spain and abroad, at prices equivalent to the cost of a house.
