Indonesia – Sumatra – Aceh – Calang - 28-year-old Rifdali Rahmatullah standing on the seashore with his wife and daughter. “It was a wall of black water, rolling towards the coast from two different directions. When it got closer to the coast it grew into a huge wave, crashing into the land and reaching the foot of the hill. I was just few meters up”. From his position as a caretaker of a nearby plantation, Rifdali saw the whole scene unrolling like in a movie. Three days after, Rifdali went back to his village swimming among the dead bodies, he was rewarded by the sight of his parents, who ran after him in tears of joy. “They were so surprised to see me alive after three days. I wanted to cry for the happiness too” he remembers, still deeply touched.
