Indonesia – Sumatra – Banda Aceh – Nurlaila, 48-years old lost her husband and one son during the tsunami. “I still remember that day very well. I will never be able to forget it. I try to cope by being religious and telling to myself that it all came from God”. From that terrible experience that completely destroyed her house and life, Nurlaila was able to salvage only few thousands rupiahs and a praying book. Today, she lives in her new house in Lampulo, her home village, surviving thanks to a pension and by selling peanuts. “It's hard” she admits. “I am alone and have to provide for my 23-year-old son, who is attending college. But my family got strength by the fact that a lot of people here had the same experience. We feel we are not alone”.
